Kicks off U.S. Franchise Expansion Starting in Seattle, Riding the Wave of the Korean Wave (Hallyu)

As the demand for Korean cuisine continues to rise due to the global spread of Hallyu (the Korean Wave), many Korean food franchises are thriving overseas. Among them, Hanok Maeul Jeonju Bibimbap & Tofu, operated by CEO Hyunki Kim of Pungnyeon FC, has signed a business agreement with Hanmi Business Partner, a U.S.-based agent led by CEO Wonkyu Lee, to officially begin recruiting franchise partners across the United States.

Originally founded in 1976 as Jeonju Pungnyeon Restaurant, Hanok Maeul Jeonju Bibimbap & Tofu has carried on traditional Korean recipes for nearly 50 years. Recognized as a top Korean food franchise, it has previously been awarded the grand prize in the ‘Korean Food Franchise’ category within the Korea Brand Top 100.

Currently operating 60 franchise locations across Korea — including in Shinsegae Department Store, Lotte Department Store, and Sejong Government Complex — the brand has positioned itself as a premium Korean fast-casual concept.
